This article indicates that as a last ditch effort for survival, Banff elk are domiciling ever closer to civilization. Thanks to this survival adaptation, the Banff Park Game officials have been reduced to “scooping and releasing” calf elk to avoid them becoming unwelcome residents.
This is an art that our own Fish and Game officials may soon have to learn. I can only imagine the next step, first try “scoop and release”, then when that effort eventually fails, what the hell – just release farm raised elk as that should maintain the hungry predator base just fine.
